Far Flung Figure Sculpting

Far Flung Figures might be the inevitable result of my career as a hobbyist. My name is Jonas Svensson and I grew up in Sweden surrounded by miniatures, RPGs and Fantasy art books. Miniatures have always been a part of my life. My father had all sorts of minis in boxes in the basement as I grew up, and I vividly remember the car rides home from the hobby stores in Gothenburg, Sweden. I would spend the entire ride cradling blister packs and cardboard boxes of random ratmen, turtle dragons and whatever I’d pick up. Like many others, this would eventually lead me down the road to Warhammer Fantasy as a teenager in the mid 90’s, with 4th edition Fantasy and 2nd edition 40K completely dominating my growing miniature collection. That Goblin and Elf starter box will always be etched into my brain.

Since then I’ve played all manners of miniature games. I’ve enjoyed both Fantasy, Sci-Fi and Historical miniatures. I’ve batch painted hundreds of little French Napoleonic soldiers, assembled goblin and halfling regiments and enjoyed piloting WW1 airplanes on the tabletop.

I first got into sculpting by converting a few plastic halflings, as I needed some to field other weaponry and armour for a skirmish game. From simple head swaps I continued to convert more and more of the minis, until I was adding entire pieces of plate armour and even my first (kinda wonky) hand sculpted heads. From there the unthinkable idea came up - can I sculpt an entire miniature from scratch? For almost thirty year at that point I had not imagined it possible, but eventually I had my first, admittably wooden, halfling spearman!

After initially giving halflings and goblins a try, I eventually ended up enjoying sculpting ducks. For Swedes my age, growing up with fantasy RPGs, Ducks are not such a strange choice, as they were a core race in the RPG that was by far the most popular in the 90’s, Drakar och Demoner.

In 2022, I launched a small initial range of fantasy ducks on Kickstarter. It was a proof of concept, and it took a lot of time and effort to not only sculpt, but to figure out all the other less glamorous parts that comes with registering as a small company. At the same time I became a father myself, which left me little time to work on my miniatures. However, I kept plugging at it, finding the odd hours here and there. I’m now ready to take the next step, to eventually reach an entire range of heroic fantasy ducks!
